Annabel Du Boulay delivers talks at a variety of events hosted by organisations with relevant interests, such as women’s rights issues, mental health, emotional wellbeing, philosophy, spirituality, mythology, religion and creative writing. In her talks, Annabel shares the philosophy explored in her historical novel The Serpent’s Tale, which she developed during her recovery from depression and addiction, as well as from the challenging experience of mothering two children born with life-threatening syndromes. This philosophy is based on the Myth of Sophia, one of the oldest universal myths, which teaches us that darkness is not separate from light, and that it is within the darkest times of our lives, when we experience deep pain, loss and fear, that the light of rebirth can guide us towards greater wisdom, strength, love and compassion. It is a philosophy that helps us to accept and surrender to life’s challenges, trusting in ourselves and in life that every seemingly negative experience is an opportunity for us to heal, learn and grow. The talks also seek to raise awareness of the women’s rights issues that feature in the novel and remain endemic in our global society, such as violence against women and the subjugation of women by patriarchal religious regimes. A list of ways in which we can take action to help support oppressed women is available as a Take Action for Women pdf download.
